Shortcuts to file groups

You can use shortcuts to launch various file group features, such as Open Plan Files, Process Plan Files, and so on. The shortcut target must be the file group node in Axiom Explorer. Shortcut parameters are then used to specify the desired feature to open.

NOTE: You can also point the shortcut to a file group alias instead of a specific file group. The item will resolve against the current target of the alias. For example, the shortcut can be to the alias Current Budget and the selected feature can be Open Plan Files. If the current target of the alias is file group Budget 2019, then the shortcut will launch Open Plan Files for Budget 2019. This can be used to support file group rollover.

Can be used in

  • Task panes
  • Ribbon tabs

In all other shortcut contexts, it is not supported to link to these features. Note that some Axiom form contexts may allow you to select a file group node as the shortcut target, but it will not work as expected and should not be used.

Shortcut parameters

File groups have a single shortcut parameter named Command. The selected command determines the behavior of the shortcut. The following commands are available:

Command Description
Menu

Displays the file group menu, adjusted by the user's security permissions to that file group. For example:

  • Administrators can access the full file group menu. In ribbon tabs this displays as a drop-down menu; in task panes this displays as a collapsible menu (similar to how file groups display in the Explorer task pane).

  • End users with plan file access but no other special permissions can only use Open Plan Files. This displays as a single button or item that launches Open Plan Files directly.

Open Plan Files

Opens the Open Plan Files dialog for the file group.

Create Plan Files

Opens the Create Plan Files dialog for the file group.

Process Plan Files

Opens the Process Plan Files dialog for the file group.

Print Plan Files

Opens the Print Plan Files dialog with the current file group already selected.

Users can click on the individual files to open them.

Users can click on the individual files to open them.

Remarks

  • It is possible to link to the actual file group sub-folders and files, but this is generally not necessary and not recommended. Most file group activities should be performed through the official menu items and dialogs instead of directly accessing the files. For information on linking to the component files in a file group, such as plan files, drivers, etc., see Shortcuts to individual files in a file group.

  • If you want to include the whole file group "section" on a custom task pane (showing all file groups a user has access to), you can do this by using the Axiom Explorer Tree View command. You could modify the control so that all other sections are hidden and only File Groups is shown. For more information, see Axiom Explorer Tree View command.
