Sepsis Present on Admission without a Major Procedure Cohort

The Sepsis Present on Admission without a Major Procedure Cohort includes all encounters with any diagnosis code for sepsis or septic shock present on admission (POA) and no procedures with an HCUP Procedure Class of 3 or 4.

To leverage this cohort:

• Profile Filters: In the Profile Editor, add the cohort as a profile filter. With this option, you can further customize the profile with additional filters.
• Statistical Process Control: Because sepsis populations are not homogenous, this cohort is not available in this section.

Cohort inclusions

To be eligible for this cohort, the encounter must have a diagnosis code of sepsis or septic shock (one of: A021, A207, A227, A267, A327, A392, A393, A394, A400, A401, A403, A408, A409, A4101, A4102, A411, A412, A413, A414, A4150, A4151, A4152, A4153, A4159, A4181, A4189, A419, A427, A5486, B007, B377, I76, R6520, or R6521), coded in any position and present on admission (POA=Y).

Cohort exclusions

Encounters are excluded if they have a procedure with an HCUP Procedure Class of 3 or 4, coded in any position. Additional filters can be applied when Customizing Profiles.

Statistical Process Control (SPC) measures

NOTE: Because sepsis populations are not homogenous, they are not available in the SPC section of Scorecards.
