Ellucian Ethos API connection enhancement

Why use this feature

Syntellis Performance Solutions is now a proud partner of Ellucian Ethos, the higher education framework connecting people, process, and applications across the institution to power coordinated programs designed for student success. Institutions using the Ellucian Ethos data model can use the Ethos API to integrate Ellucian, Syntellis, and institutional applications by using an API key to import Ethos data to Axiom staging tables. This enhancement allows Axiom to handle larger data sets.

How this feature works

What: Import data from Ellucian Ethos into Syntellis Axiom Budgeting.

Where: From the Windows Client.

Who: Users with an Administrator role and Syntellis Implementation Consultants.

How: To import Ellucian Ethos data into Axiom, you must have an Ethos API key for the purposes of Axiom integration. You can create this API key in Ethos. The API key must then be granted access to the appropriate Ethos data resources within Ethos. For easier reference during set up, we recommend that you make a note of the container names that have been used in Ethos to load GL LedgerActivity data from the Ellucian Banner or Colleague systems.

Enter the Ethos API key on the Source tab of the first EthosStage import table in Axiom and subsequently connected to each EthosStage import table. Add the relevant container name(s) in the Variables tab of the Import from Ethos scheduler jobs.

Run the Import from Ethos GL History job for each desired fiscal year of GL transaction detail, including the current fiscal year. The job may take considerable time to run for each year of history. Plan for a day or two of load time for each year of history.

Once the history has been loaded, run the Import from Ethos Nighty Refresh job. This can be scheduled for nightly operation.

Data mapping within Axiom will be required for Labor Planning. The relevant EthosMap tables will be populated with values from Ethos, and OTIS should be used to assign the Ethos values to the desired Labor and Student dimensional values.

NOTE: Axiom Budgeting documentation does not include instructions on creating an API key in Ellucian Ethos because it is not a Syntellis Axiom product. You must consult Ellucian Ethos documentation for instructions on how to create an API key. Ellucian documentation is available in the Ellucian Customer Center.
