Understanding plan file variance calculations

The Budgeting, Labor Planning, and Forecasting plan files display variance dollar and percentage amounts in the Variance $ and Variance % columns. The calculations used for these amounts is displayed below:

Column	Calculation
Variance $	Budget expenses - Forecast expenses
Variance %	Variance / Budget expenses

To view the calculation for each column in a plan file, click Calculation Reference in the upper-right of the plan file.

The Year-to-Date section at the bottom of the plan file also displays Variance $ and Variance % amounts. The calculations used for these amounts is displayed below:

Section	Calculation
Variance $	Budget expenses YTD - Actual expenses YTD
Variance %	Variance / Budget expenses YTD

To view the calculation for each row in the Year-to-Date section of the plan file, click the information icon to the right of the section title.
