Merit and salary planning
Axiom Budgeting allows you to drill down into, and manage, individual position details from the Position Planning tab of the labor plan file.
Click a magnifying glass icon in the Position ID column of the Position Planning tab to open the Position Details dialog for the associated position.
Position Detail dialog overview
The Position Detail dialog allows you to view, input, and modify data for the position. The data in the dialog is pulled from several different Excel tables as detailed below:
- LABORROSTER data table
- LABORDISTRIBUTION data table
- Drivers utility
Position Detail dialog functionality
The Position Detail dialog is used to create or modify position end dates, adjust spread, modify salary and adjustments including merit, and modify distributions.
Use the blue text boxes in the Regular Pay section of the Position Detail display to adjust merit or salary by percentage or a dollar amount. If you adjust both the percentage and the dollar amount for a specific row, the amounts will add together.
The total calculated impact for Merit and Salary adjustments will reflect the calculated planning impact for the full year. Adjustments in this section will not take into account any partial year impact for either merit or start/end dates.
You can push through adjustments for both Salaried, as well as Hourly employees.
NOTE: If the employee is ‘Hourly,’ the $ Adjustments should be entered in as a dollar amount rather than an annual impact.
The labor category and bargaining unit for an individual position is displayed in the Position section of the Position Detail display.
To plan for future years, click the Plan for Future Years icon in the upper-right of the Regular Pay section of the Position Detail display.
This Plan for Future Years icon updates the display with proposed salary and corresponding adjustment fields for the next year years. The Distributions section displays 36 months of data. You are able to manually adjust merit and salaries by both percentage and dollar amount in the outer years displayed.

If you plan labor for a position that exceeds 100%, Axiom Budgeting displays a warning message to alert that you have over-planned for the position. However, Axiom Budgeting allows you to save data in this situation.

Merit for new positions
There are some important items to keep in mind for understanding how merit applies, or doesn't apply, when adding new positions. There are two ways new positions are added in Axiom Budgeting:
- A direct push from your internal systems to Axiom Budgeting.
- Manually within Axiom Budgeting

When adding new positions from a push, the merit percent for the plan year will be 0% regardless of any amounts in the % Adj cell. This is similar to what happens when you originally create a new employee.
The outer years match the merit percent set in the drivers after a push. The $ Adj. values for all years remain as they are entered by users since only merit rates are pushed - not merit dollars.

For these positions, you click the Reset icon to reset merit.
Click the reset icon to reset the merit percent and the merit adjusted dollars for the plan year to zero. Adjusted dollars for outer years are also reset to zero. This is as merit would be when you first create a position.
The outer years match the merit percent set in the drivers.
