Saving additional report templates

You can save additional spreadsheet report templates to the Axiom Software file system. When a user creates a new report, they can select any of the report templates to use as a starting point.

The ability to save additional report templates is primarily for report design purposes—for example, to have a report with pre-set fonts, colors, logos, and so on. Report templates should be saved without a Control Sheet, so that when the template is used to create a new report, the latest Control Sheet is automatically applied.

Alternatively, you can save a template with a Control Sheet, in order to store pre-set Control Sheet configurations. However, in this case the user will most likely need to upgrade the Control Sheet to use the latest features.

Only administrators can save new templates.

To save an additional report template:

  1. Design the report sheets as desired within the file that you want to save as a report template. When you are finished with the file, save it to any accessible location.

    You can start with an Axiom report, or you can use a normal Excel file. If the file is an Axiom file, you should remove the Control Sheet before saving the file as a template.

  2. On the Axiom tab, in the Administration group, select Manage > Axiom Explorer.

    NOTE: In systems with installed products, this feature may be located on the Admin tab. In the System Management group, click System Browser.

  3. In Axiom Explorer, navigate to \Axiom\Axiom System\Document Templates\Reports.
  4. Right-click the Reports folder and then select Import Files.
  5. In the Select File to Import dialog, navigate to the file, and then click Open.

The file is saved to the Reports template folder. When a user creates a new report, this file will be one of the options to use as the report template.

Other file types

Other file types, such as drivers or forms, also support the ability to have multiple templates. If multiple templates are present, users can choose the template to use when creating a new file of that type.

To define a template for another file type, use the same process described previously for reports, but save the file to a different location:

  • Drivers: \Axiom\Axiom System\Document Templates\Drivers
  • Forms: \Axiom\Axiom System\Document Templates\Forms
  • Utilities: \Axiom\Axiom System\Document Templates\Utilities

Other file types that are not listed here do not support multiple templates.
