Copy File Group Security

Use the Copy File Group Security command to copy security settings from one file group to another. This command could be used to establish security for a new file group when the new file group was not created by cloning, or if the file group was created by cloning but security was not copied during the clone.

Can be used in

  • Ribbon tabs
  • Task panes

When the CM Library command is selected from the Command Library as the shortcut target, it displays as command://CopyFileGroupSecurity or command://CopyFileGroupSecurityCommandAdapter (legacy syntax).

Shortcut parameters

This command uses the following shortcut parameters:

Action Description

Source file group

The source file group to copy security from. You can select any file group or file group alias.

Target file group

The target file group to copy security to. You can select any file group (or alias) that uses the same plan code table as the source file group.

Overwrite existing security

Specifies whether existing security on the target file group is overwritten with security from the source file group.

This option is enabled by default, which means security settings are copied as follows:

  • All existing permissions defined on the File Groups tab for the target file group are cleared. File group permissions are then copied from the source file group to the target file group.
  • For file permissions defined on the Files tab, existing permissions on the target file group are left in place unless there is a conflicting permission in the source file group, in which case the permission is copied from the source file group to the target file group (overwriting the existing permission).

If this option is disabled, then all existing permissions on the target file group are preserved. Only non-conflicting security permissions are copied from the source file group to the target file group.

Visibility

Items that use this command are always visible and active. However, the user must be an administrator or have the Administer File Group permission in order to copy security between file groups.
