Shortcuts to tables

You can use a shortcut to open a table. By default, the table is opened using Open Table in Spreadsheet. Various shortcut parameters can be used to impact how the table is opened.

Can be used in

  • Favorites
  • Task panes
  • Ribbon tabs

Although some Axiom form contexts may allow you to select a table as a shortcut target, table shortcuts are not officially supported in Axiom forms and may not work as expected.

Shortcut parameters

Table shortcuts support the following parameters:

Item Description

Edit Table Structure

Opens the table in the Edit Table dialog instead of Open Table in Spreadsheet.

Filter

Applies a filter when the table is opened using Open Table in Spreadsheet. The filter must use valid filter criteria syntax.

Max Rows

Limits the rows returned when the table is opened using Open Table in Spreadsheet.

Read Only

Opens the table as read-only, regardless of whether the user has a higher level of rights.

Limit to unused items

Opens the table in Open Table in Spreadsheet, filtered to only show items that are not referenced in any data table.

Show as Menu

Displays the menu items available for the table. These are the same items that display when accessing a table from the Tables menu on the default Axiom ribbon.

Remarks

When a table is a shortcut target in a task pane or a ribbon tab (either directly or by linking to a table folder), users do not need to have the special permission to Open Table in Spreadsheet in order to view the table. As long as the user has at least read access to the table, then using the table shortcut will open the table in Open Table in Spreadsheet (as read-only).

However, users must have the Administer Tables permission in order to edit the table structure or open the table in the Dimension Manager.

NOTE: If the shortcut target is the Table Library parent folder instead of a subfolder, then the behavior is like the Explorer task pane—only administrators or users with special table permissions can view the Table Library.
